15 Years in the Making

The HKIS Master Facilities Plan (MFP) began more than 15 years ago in 2006 and included the redevelopment of our Repulse Bay campus. With a completely new Lower Primary and a fully renovated and expanded Upper Primary, which is our original building from the 1960s, this phase of the plan was completed in 2018. We are now entering an exciting phase of development - the Tai Tam campus.

Our Classroom:
The Tai Tam Peninsula

At HKIS, we see endless possibilities open to us through the curriculum we’ve established over 50 years. Driven by a strong mission, our focus is on how to apply learning in a real-world context and how our physical environment supports students’ learning. When we look at the whole of Tai Tam peninsula as our classroom, we can start to imagine the different ways our setting can support student learning.

Health, Wellbeing, and More!

Our newest development is a Student Activity Center that will bring our health and wellbeing program to life. This multi-story center will house sporting facilities and massive multi-purpose rooms for improving physical and mental health. With tennis courts on the roof, a 3-story indoor climbing wall and innovative fitness studios, the Student Activity Center is much more than ‘just a gym’!

Sustainable Learning

The new buildings themselves will provide learning opportunities, with solar panels across the roof demonstrating to our students the efficacy of sustainable energy and reduced carbon impact of alternative energy. The new chiller plant in the High School, redeveloped in 2020, creates a powerful, efficient, and most importantly, an environmentally-friendly way of heating and cooling our entire Tai Tam Campus.

The Ripple Effect

With our athletics and PE programs in the Student Activity Center, we can further develop our facilities in the High School to shine a light on our many other programs, such as the Performing Arts. A 1,000-seat performance hall, a Tai Tam Chinese Culture Center, a New Media Center, and a vast Visual Arts, Design, and Technology space are just a few highlights to underpin the next steps of the plan.

Commitment to the Community

The Student Activity Center supports the whole community—from our students who will use it daily to the broader Hong Kong community, who will access it through our extensive activities program and partnerships. It will also have 180 much-needed parking spaces! This, together with our plans for a 1,000 seat performing arts center marks the Tai Tam campus as a key landmark for the learning community on the southside of Hong Kong.
